iLinc Communications Helps Marist College Significantly Reduce Web Conferencing Costs

School Chooses to Replace WebEx to Expand Academic and Administrative Capabilities through Improved Online Collaboration

PHOENIX, Arizona (October 17, 2006) –

iLinc Communications, Inc. (AMEX:ILC), developers of Web conferencing software and audio conferencing solutions, today announced that Marist College, one of the leading colleges of the arts and sciences in the Northeast, replaced WebEx(TM) with iLinc Web conferencing software to reduce costs and to gain better Web conferencing functionality. The college paid a one-time fee to own iLinc software, eliminating costly monthly fees that they were paying to WebEx. Choosing to have iLinc Communications host the iLinc software, Marist College greatly reduced the burden of assigning IT resources to manage the technology.

“By purchasing software and allowing iLinc to host it, our customers reap the combined benefits of an ownership model and a software-as-a-service (SAAS) model,” said James M. Powers, Jr., President and Chief Executive Officer of iLinc Communications. “Like the SAAS model, iLinc customers are operational in minutes without the added stresses of purchasing hardware, worrying about bandwidth, or consuming strained IT resources.”

Marist College is known for its leadership in the use of technology to enhance the teaching and learning process. Marist College launched the first New York state accredited online graduate degree program and built a world-class technology platform to support instructional, research, and administrative initiatives.

Marist College is getting even greater value from the iLinc software than originally forecasted. According to Joshua Baron, Director, Academic Technology and eLearning for Marist College, “We originally intended to use Web conferencing primarily to train students on how to be successful distance learners and to offer online student orientation sessions. Now, we’re expanding our use of iLinc to support high-quality distance learning instruction as well as administrative events, such as advisory councils and Board meetings.”

“Marist College is part of a sweeping trend that began just two years ago of nearly 300 organizations that have switched from WebEx to iLinc to save money,” said Powers. “They initially choose iLinc because of our pricing model, but they stay with us because of superior Web conferencing functionality and integrated phone capabilities. In fact, 94 of 100 new iLinc customers that we surveyed reported additional functionality as the best aspect of switching from WebEx to iLinc.”

Marist College has leveraged the iLinc software across administrative and academic functions. Administratively, the college uses iLinc to host some of its Board of Trustees meetings. Academically, educators use iLinc to create community among distance learning students. Not only do they have broad technical capabilities (e.g. sharing applications, using markup tools, enabling synchronized Web browsing, etc.) to introduce courses, the interactive aspects of iLinc enable students to connect to each other and to the instructor.

iLinc sessions benefit Marist financially, helping to markedly reduce attrition rates. The college also predicts significant long-term ROI from iLinc as a result of returning students. The strategy is to ensure that students enjoy the online learning experience, making them more likely to return to Marist for additional and/or graduate degrees.
