Cisco Adds Another Company

Late last month Cisco Systems acquired Norwegian conference hardware developer Tandberg, and followed with the acquisition of mobile multimedia solutions company Starent Networks. Just this week, they’ve announced plans to acquire a third company in this two-month period: ScanSafe, a provider of SaaS Web security solutions for small business to global enterprises.

Cisco’s VP and general manager of security technology, Tom Gillis, calls the acquisition a step toward building a “borderless network security architecture that combines network and cloud-based services.”  This will allow Cisco users top-notch security for products like their WebEx line, and also the ability to choose whatever deployment option is best suited to their needs. In addition, IronPort, an on-premise content security appliance gained another acquisition, when considered with the ScanSafe technology, will give Cisco packages a leg up security wise. ScanSafe will be integrated with Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client, in the hopes of offering a leading secure mobility product.

The deal is expected to close in by the second fiscal quarter of 2010.
