Web conferencing, a technology that allows employees to work with customers and associates on a face-to-face level from remote locations, is just one of the things companies are utilizing to streamline costs while still driving key collaborations.

While Web conferencing seems like a great, inexpensive idea, some companies don’t realize just how much benefit this platform can provide. Web conferencing and telecommuting technologies have been proven to save money and help increase the productivity of the business, but that can only happen if companies begin to develop plans to spread the utilization of this technology.

Although the idea of Web conferencing is beginning to boom, organizations are failing to offer appropriate solutions to their employees and some don’t even realize the cost and collaboration benefits they would receive with this innovative investment.

Dimension data has found that companies and enterprises that have a high percentage of remote workers are more likely to have room-based conferencing equipment. A researcher in the study noted that the companies with the highest need for Web conferencing and video collaboration tools, such as remote workers, usually have the least access to it, indicating these companies don’t fully understand the multiple benefits.

Not only are companies looking at Web conferencing as a new way to communicate with customers, the federal government is also interested in this technology. Recently, the Telework Enhancement Act was signed by president Obama, stating that federal employees could now work from home and other locations by using Web conferencing and other similar telecommuting technologies. With this push toward Web conferencing, adoption is likely to rapidly increase over the next few years.
