Operating systems no longer an obstacle for Web conferencing

Karlsruhe, 12.03.09 – Web conferences now reach more people than ever. Netviewer AG, the leading European provider of Web collaboration solutions, has made it possible to hold Web conferences on a variety of operating systems. The new version of Netviewer for SaaS customers will be available in March and will enable Macintosh, Linux, and UNIX users to participate in Web meetings and online customer discussions. Exciting new features like improved VoIP quality and integration into existing infrastructures increase user-friendliness and make Web meetings a convenient, stress-free, and effective alternative to on-site events.

Project meetings, customer consultations, and contract negotiations become much more vivid when conducted as a Web conference instead of a conventional teleconference. The common phrase “Let me show you” takes on a whole new meaning when business partners can jointly view, discuss, and edit documents live over the Internet. Unfortunately, until now strict security guidelines prevented some users from participating in Web meetings. In other cases, non-Windows platforms made it impossible to execute .exe files. Version 5.1 of Netviewer solves these problem with a Flash client that allows users of Linux and UNIX operating systems to participate in secure Netviewer meetings. The only requirement is to have the most recent Flash player. Now Macintosh users also have a free participant program. The latest version of Netviewer even supports the 64-bit versions of Windows XP, Vista, Server 2003, and Server 2008.

Revised operating functions make Web conferences easier to use than ever before. Speech quality with VoIP has been given another boost. New functions simplify VoIP configuration and help the user set up his headset. Netviewer now recognizes each user’s screen resolution and automatically selects the best way to reproduce the transferred screen. This makes it much easier to read what is on the screen, particularly when screen resolutions differ significantly.

The new version also includes an add-in for Windows Live Messenger. With this feature, the initiator of a Web conference can invite Live Messenger contacts without leaving Netviewer. “We already have extensive add-ins and plug-ins for Outlook, Skype, and Firefox. The latest add-in for Live Messenger is only the most recent development for integrating Netviewer into existing work processes. The aim is to give the user an ever higher level of convenience,” according to Dr. Andreas Schweinbenz, founder and CEO of Netviewer. Russian is the latest language version of Netviewer, bringing the total to nine different languages. New support for Unicode may pave the way for Asian languages in the near future.
