MegaMeeting.com Considered Cost Effective Web Conferencing Solution

Internet MegaMeeting, the company behind MegaMeeting.com Web conferencing solutions, is noticing a threat from the recent Salesforce.com purchase of DimDim. To respond to this movement in the market, MegaMeeting is offering a 20 percent discount on all non-personal accounts that are set up by current DimDim users by March 31, 2011.

MegaMeeting is hoping that this discount will offer DimDim users affected by the $31 million buyout an attractive alternative for their Web conferencing needs. When the Salesforce.com buyout was announced, DimDim also announced that it would no longer accept new user registrations, and will not offer any renewals or extensions when current client contracts expire.

MegaMeeting is hoping to appeal to affected DimDim customers with its 100 percent browser-based Web and video conferencing services. While it has been reported that Salesforce.com plans to leverage DimDim’s Web conferencing capabilities, integrating them with Chatter to drive further customer satisfaction, a timetable has not yet been released as to how quickly customers will be supported. MegaMeeting is hoping to capitalize on this window by offering its service at a discounted rate.

A completely browser-based solution, MegaMetting.com enables users to join meetings with just the click of their mouse. Downloads and installations are not necessary to participate in MegaMeeting sessions. The service runs on an Adobe Flash plug-in – much like DimDim. As roughly 99 percent of the world’s computers already have this plug-in, MegaMeeting.com has the potential for broad reach.

As companies are recognizing the value of leveraging Web conferencing solutions in place of costly travel and face-to-face meetings, the competitive intensity in the Web conferencing space is heating up. The latest movement by Salesforce.com and DimDim has competitors on their best behavior to try and grab some of the more vulnerable accounts.
