Experiencing the Transformation at Cisco Expo 2008

One of the Largest IT Events in Hong Kong Showcasing How Technologies are Changing Businesses and People’s Daily Lives

HONG KONG, June 10, 2008 – Cisco Expo 2008, held on June 10 and 11 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, demonstrated Cisco’s innovative communications and collaboration technologies that help change the way people work, live, play and learn. The two-day Expo, one of the largest of its kind ever held in Hong Kong, received tremendous support from the industry and the market. More than 50 industry partners, technology vendors, associations, business and technical organizations, as well as over 3,000 delegates and visitors, participated in the event, with more than US$1.2 million worth of equipment showcased.

Themed “Experience the Transformation”, Cisco Expo 2008 began with a keynote session delivered by guest speaker Tom Mehrmann, chief executive of Hong Kong Ocean Park, and senior Cisco executives John McCool, the senior vice president/general manager of the Cisco Data Center, Switching and Services Group and Owen Chan, president of Cisco’s Asia Pacific theater.

Speaking at the keynote session, Mr Mehrmann shared his insights into the success and the transformation of Ocean Park in the face of the changing competition landscape, as well as the comprehensive technology planning that has supported its position as a world-class theme park. “Ocean Park has successfully transformed itself over the years in the highly competitive and dynamic theme park industry. Recognized as the fifth most visited theme park in Asia, we see giving our guests memorable experiences as key to our success. On the ‘soft’, personal side, we connect guests with nature through our differential qualities, and we create immersive moments through our education and conservation programmes presented in entertaining and guest-friendly ways,” said Mr Mehrmann. “To fulfil our vision of transforming into a next-generation theme park, technology is crucial as it allows us to process all the diverse information from our different operational units into cohesive and realistic business decisions. Armed with this intelligence, the Park’s talented team will deliver what is relevant to our guests and right for the business to achieve success. We strive to do the right thing, while doing things right, and technology is one of the enabling tools.”

“Cisco sees the network as the platform that pulls together business and technology,” said Mr McCool. “This is more true today than ever, as businesses are transforming and the network expands to support a real time collaborative environment for the empowered global users and addresses the operational needs of the enterprise by delivering information and services from efficient virtualized data centers.”

Other highlights of the two-day Expo included panel discussions with guest speakers from different vertical industries, over 40 breakout sessions that combined technical and business topics, an interactive exhibition of the latest technologies from Cisco and those of more than 15 other industry-leading IT enterprises, and a live drama performance.

The Expo provided an ideal platform for industry leaders, technology experts and senior managers from a wide range of industries to exchange their unique perspectives and views on how network technologies help shape and transform their businesses as well as their personal lives.

Cisco Expo 2008 exhibited a broad portfolio of solutions that help businesses and consumers change the way they work, live, play and learn. Visitors were able to personally experience Cisco’s networking innovations such as Unified Communications, wireless technologies, data center solutions, Digital Media System, IronPort, WebEx and an array of Linksys products, along with other innovative exhibits from event sponsors during the Expo.

At the Expo, visitors enjoyed a very involving on-stage drama performance entitled “Living the Cisco-Powered Life”. The show comprised a series of spirited episodes with live performers in simulated scenarios representing Work, Live, Play and Learn. These demonstrated how Cisco solutions integrate voice, video and data services which are available anytime, anywhere and on any device, to form a fundamental part of people’s lives.

“As the worldwide leader in networking and a leading corporate citizen of Hong Kong, Cisco has long been committed to delivering innovative communications and collaboration technologies to help enable the second phase of the Internet: Web 2.0. Staying true to our core values and our belief in the human network, we are excited to demonstrate the transformation to new life experiences with the network as the platform at Cisco Expo 2008,” said Barbara Chiu, general manager, Cisco Hong Kong and Macau.
