Dimdim Releases Version 5, Makes Meeting on the Web Easier

New Version Significantly Expands Features and Performance While Saving Customers from Pricier Legacy Solutions

BOSTON, April 2 /PRNewswire/ — Dimdim (www.dimdim.com), the easy, open source web meeting company, today announced the introduction of Dimdim 5. The new version expands upon Dimdim’s already comprehensive feature set, delivering the company’s easiest, most affordable and open web conferencing solution to date. This new version introduces improved screencasting, webinar widgets, registration reports and is faster and more secure. In addition, Dimdim today introduced new pricing plans guaranteed to save customers money over all existing solutions from Cisco WebEx and Citrix GoToMeeting.

“At a fraction of the price, Dimdim 5 provides more functionality and less headaches at a time when people are looking to cut costs and make their lives easier,” said DD Ganguly, co-founder and CEO of Dimdim. “With Dimdim 5, users now have the feature sets and functionality they want with no hassles. No longer do they need to deal with complicated and expensive legacy web conferencing solutions or unnecessary software downloads and expensive support.”

Dimdim 5 expands the rich features that already include screen sharing, voice and video chat, collaborative whiteboards, document sharing, instant messaging, multiple presenters, recording, audio conferencing, full support for Mac OS, SynchroLive Co-Browsing, and more. Users can host, attend and even record Dimdim meetings with no plug-in required other than Flash. The Dimdim 5 upgrades include:

  • Improved Screencasting – Significantly improved thanks to user feedback, Dimdim’s screencasting is designed to become the best in the industry. Users will experience dramatically faster, more secure computer screen sharing. The new zoomable viewer allows participants to view a presenter’s screen in full-screen mode right inside their web browser.
  • Webinar Widgets – Instead of complicated webinar registration forms, Dimdim widgets provide one-click promotion and registration for Dimdim Web events. Widgets are automatically created whenever a user schedules a meeting and can easily be shared on any website, via Facebook or Twitter. The widget automatically changes to indicate when your meeting is live and provides a location for your meeting recording or transcript when the event ends.
  • HotSpot Service Enhancements – With over 300 performance enhancements in version 5, users will experience faster and easier document sharing, automatic webcam/microphone detection, and more, providing much better performance with lower bandwidth requirements.
  • Registration Reports – Users can now receive reports that list the name and time of everyone who registered for an event and whether they were invited or self-registered via a Dimdim webinar widget.
  • Dimdim Pro Enhancements – Dimdim has moved all Dimdim Pro accounts to a dedicated, more powerful server farm, separating their traffic from Dimdim Free, ensuring better and faster performance, improved audio quality, availability and security. Dimdim Pro accounts also experience a higher level of customization and support while enjoying additional and larger video options.
  • New Monthly Payment Option – Dimdim Pro users now have a choice of monthly plans in addition to annual plans. The newly added Dimdim Pro 50 enables meetings for as many as 50 participants averaging only $19 per month. (Compare this to the $59 that WebEx charges for a 25-person meeting.) The company also reduced the price of Dimdim Pro 100 from $495 to $468 per year, making this 100 person room the same price as a GoToMeeting 15 person room.

“In today’s economy, individuals and businesses are looking for more affordable and easy ways to stay connected to peers, partners and customers by meeting online and avoiding travel expense and time,” said Mark Levitt, VP for Collaboration and Enterprise 2.0 Strategies at IDC. “Low cost solutions featuring integrated Web, audio and video conferencing that can enable people to achieve this objective will be well positioned to thrive even during times of economic uncertainty.”

Dimdim Pro is available for only $228 per year – this equates to only $19 per month – for an unlimited number of meetings of 50 participants. Customers can also choose monthly plans starting at only $9.95/month and pay as they go with no long-term commitment. There’s no software to download and it takes only one click to start or join a web conference that can be attended from any web browser. The meeting can easily be recorded and shared with others as a URL or embeddable code. Dimdim also offers Dimdim Free, a free, hosted service for meetings with 20 or fewer people and provides both onsite and hosted enterprise class products that meet the needs of very large organizations. Dimdim is used by more than two million people worldwide.
