Citrix Survey Reveals Small Business Owners More Likely to Be Web Commuters Than Other Workers

50% of Small Business Owners Frequently Work away from the Office

SANTA BARBARA, CA – December 10, 2007 – A survey conducted by the polling company, inc.™ and sponsored by Citrix Online, maker of Citrix® GoToMyPC® remote access and Citrix® GoToMeeting® online meetings, revealed that small business owners are more likely than workers overall to conduct business away from a traditional workplace – 50 percent said they did so frequently and 25 percent said they did so “all the time.” The poll also found that 41 percent of small business owners can be classified as “Web Commuters” – people who use Internet technologies to accomplish their work away from a conventional office.

“We conducted this survey, ‘Web Commuting & The American Workforce,’ to examine the extent to which technologies allow professionals the freedom and efficiency to accomplish tasks away from the office,” said Kellyanne Conway, president and CEO at the polling company, inc. “These data show that the workplace can be everywhere, especially for small businesses.”

For instance, the poll revealed that 64 to 75 percent of small business owners believed the Internet would play an integral role should they be allowed to work remotely and 58 percent agreed that they would benefit from a fast and affordable way to meet over the Internet with colleagues located anywhere, and share information as if in the same room.

“Given the increasing innovations in affordable, easy-to-use Web-based tools, the demand for new and creative ways to work on-the-go is bound to grow in the coming years,” said Bernardo de Albergaria, vice president and general manager, eCommerce, at Citrix Online. “More people will be able to start their own businesses, perform their work and collaborate with others from anywhere.”
