InterCall Employees Stay Home to Help the Planet

Nationwide “Green-Out” Headlines Company’s Earth Day Activities

CHICAGO, April 21, 2009 – America’s 130 million workers generate 1.68 metric tons of CO2 per year through commuting, business travel, computer use and other related activities. So last Earth Day employees at InterCall, the world’s largest conferencing and collaboration services provider, helped save nearly a ton of CO2 just by staying put for one day. This year they have their sights set even higher.
During InterCall’s 2009 “Green-Out,” employees will have the option to work from home one day during the week of Earth Day and use conferencing to conduct business. In 2008, nearly half of InterCall’s 2,000 employees participated in the program.

“In a recent survey, we saw that 66 percent of companies make travel reduction their number one priority for working green,” said Kathleen Finato, senior vice president of Marketing and Business Development at InterCall. “We can help them reduce travel with our conferencing services, and show them how easy it can be to implement programs like the Green-Out.”

In addition to the Green-Out, InterCall employees will volunteer at events across the country to clean up and improve their communities; all employees who participate in an event will receive a reusable grocery/tote bag so they can do their part for the environment 365 days a year. InterCall’s sales team will devote Earth Day to introducing customers to new conferencing technologies that can help them skip the face-to-face meetings and reduce their carbon emissions.

“Companies are finding that audio, video and Web conferencing are easy-to-use and not only save time and money, but also help the environment,” Finato said. “Tools like conferencing empower individuals to make the right choices about when to travel and how to connect with business partners. And it’s an easy shift to make, because it doesn’t require significant process changes or equipment.”

InterCall is also offering everyone a chance to go green. Visit greenconferencing.com, take the green business quiz, and InterCall will plant a tree on your behalf; the company has already planted more than 18,000 trees.
